The US Mint released the 2007 Proof Silver Eagle following the excitement and special issues of the prior year related to the 20th anniversary of the program. The price of silver was also slightly more subdued than the prior two years, although it still recorded a gain.
Sales of the year's proof Silver Eagle began on March 27, 2007. The original US Mint price was $29.95 each, which reflected an increase of $2.00 from the previous year. No household ordering limits were imposed and no maximum authorized mintage was indicated.
Each coin featured the classic "Walking Liberty" obverse design by Adolph A. Weinman. The allegorical Liberty figure walks confidently forward towards a rising sun, with a flag draped across her shoulders and a bouquet of olive branches in her arm. The reverse design by John Mercanti depicts the heraldic eagle with thirteen stars above. The coins were struck at the West Point Mint and carried the "W" mint mark.
The 2007 Proof Silver Eagle was only sold individually and was not included in any special collectors sets or other US Mint products. The final audited mintage for the coin was 821,759.
The price of silver traded within a range for much of 2007 before moving higher during the fourth quarter. Silver traded close to $16 per ounce briefly, but then closed the year at $14.76 per ounce.
